9 miler

Ran 9 miles at 2 p.m. today and luckily it wasn't too hot (around 80). I couldn't get mapmyrun to work so I had to guess and ended up doing 9.25 miles in a couple minutes under 1.5 hours. About 9:30 miles. Nice and easy.

  1. That's so funny that you say 80 degrees isn't too hot! I would be ROASTING! I think 70 degrees is hot! I'm such a light weight huh? Guess that's what happens when you take up running in Minnesota where the temperature stays below freezing for 9 months of the year : )

So the water belt we have is just called a fuel belt. Not sure if that's the brand or the name of it but that's what it says on the belt. I REALLY like it. I mean yeah, you can tell you're wearing it but for how much water you can carry it's surprisingly lightweight and hardly bounces (if at all) and doesn't ride up. They have models with 2 water bottles or 4. I recommend the 4 bottles because on your 18-20 milers you're going to need all four. Anyway, hope that helps!

  2. Hi Tara,
You don't know me - I'm just a random web surfer googling for marathon info, and I found your blog. I am also training for my first marathon in September (http://mattkruse.com/2009/05/29/marathon/), and I've been reading as much info online as I can find.

I found your blog because I was searching for Hal Higdon's "Novice 2" program. I started out using "Novice 2", but then switched to "Novice 1" because I read a lot about getting injured by jumping in too fast, doing too many miles, etc. But now I'm thinking it just seems a little too easy (a 6 mile "long" run? really?). So I think I'm going to switch again and use the "Novice 2" plan from here on out. I guess if it doesn't feel right, I will adjust as I go!

I will keep reading your blog to see how your training goes and if there is anything I can learn from you along the way :)

    Thanks!
